Mobile Tyre Change

Questions

Questions people ask before they book.

Answered the way we answer them on the phone, which is to say without a sales pitch. If yours is not here, call and ask it.

Before you call

How quickly can you get to me?
Usually 30 to 45 minutes from the call, anywhere in the six counties we cover. If it will be longer, because of where you are or the time of night, you hear that on the call, not after you have booked.
I don't know my tyre size. Can you still help?
Yes. The size is printed on the side of the tyre: three numbers such as 205/55 R16. The other tyres have it too, if the flat one is hard to read. If you cannot get to it, stay on the line and we will talk you through it, or ask you to send a photo while we are on the phone.
What areas do you cover?
Bristol, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Hampshire, Oxfordshire and South Wales. Twenty-four towns have their own page, with the roads we cover and recent call-outs. If your postcode is not on one of them, call anyway and we will say yes or no in one go.
Do you come out in the evening and at weekends?
Yes. About 57 in every 100 of our jobs are booked in the evening or at the weekend, which tells you when tyres tend to fail. The phone is answered 24 hours a day, bank holidays included.

Money

How much will it cost?
It depends almost entirely on the tyre. Size, brand and whether it is a run-flat make most of the difference, and the same size can cost two or three times more in a premium brand. We do not publish prices because they would be wrong for your car. Call with your tyre size and you will have a figure in about two minutes, before you agree to anything.
How do I pay?
A deposit books the job, by card link or bank transfer. The rest is paid to the fitter when the work is done.
Is mobile fitting dearer than a tyre shop?
Usually, yes, by the cost of bringing the van and the fitter to you. If the car is safe to drive and you have the time, a tyre shop will often be cheaper. We would rather tell you that now than have you find out later. Mobile fitting earns its keep when the car cannot be driven, or when half a day at a garage costs you more than the difference.
What if I cancel?
If you cancel a confirmed booking, the call-out charge is not refunded, whether or not the fitter has set off. Tyres ordered specially for your car cannot be returned either. Everything else is in the terms, in plain words.

At the roadside

How do you find me at the roadside?
Tell us the road, the nearest junction or landmark, and which way you were heading. If you have signal, we will ask you to share your phone's location while we are talking, so the fitter gets a pin rather than a description.
Can I drive on a run-flat with the warning light on?
For a short way. Most makers allow about 50 miles at no more than 50 mph once the tyre has lost pressure, and that is for getting somewhere safe, not for carrying on with your week. Note roughly how far you have driven, because it decides whether the tyre can be saved.
What if the wheel is damaged, not just the tyre?
A new tyre will not fix a bent or cracked wheel. The fitter will tell you straight if that is what they find, and what your options are. We do not recover vehicles.

What we fit

Do you do vans, caravans or motorhomes?
Cars and vans, yes, including twin-wheel tippers. Caravans and motorhomes, no.
Can you repair the puncture instead of replacing the tyre?
Often. If the hole is in the middle three-quarters of the tread, under about 6 mm across, and the tyre has not been driven on flat, it can usually be repaired. The fitter checks before deciding. A repair costs less than a tyre, so there is no reason for us to push a new one.
What happens if it can't be repaired?
The fitter says so and gives you a price for a replacement there and then. You decide. A tyre with damage to its side, a hole near the edge, or one that has been driven on flat cannot be repaired safely, and we will not pretend otherwise.
Can you fit a spare wheel, or tyres I've already bought?
Yes to both. We have fitted customers' own spare wheels at the roadside and tyres they bought online at home. Tell us on the call so the fitter brings the right tools and does not bring a tyre you do not need.
My locking wheel nut key is missing. Can you still change the tyre?
Usually, yes. If we are changing a tyre, the fitter removes the locking nut as part of the job. Tell us when you book so they bring the removal tool, and we will say before setting off whether we can do yours. We do not come out just to remove locking nuts.
Do you fit budget tyres, or only premium brands?
Both, and the middle too. Tell us what you want to spend and we will say what is available in your size. On a small car doing short trips, a mid-range tyre is usually fine. On a fast or heavy car, a premium tyre earns its money in the wet.

Something else?

Ask on the phone. It is quicker than a form, and you get a price while you are at it.
