Flat tyre and no spare wheel
Many newer cars are sold without a spare wheel. In its place there is a can of sealant and a small compressor, or run-flat tyres. If you have a flat and no spare, these are your options, and the short answer is that a fitter brings the tyre to you.
Stay safe first
- Get the car as far from moving traffic as you can and put the hazard lights on
- On a motorway, leave at the next exit or services if the car will make it
- If you must stop on a hard shoulder or in an emergency area, get out on the passenger side and wait behind the barrier
- Stopped in a live lane and cannot get out safely? Keep your seatbelt on and call 999
- Do not try to change a wheel or use a sealant kit at the side of a motorway
What a sealant kit can fix
Sealant can get you moving after a small puncture in the tread, such as a nail hole. It will not seal a cut in the side of the tyre, a blowout or a tyre that has come off the rim. It is a temporary fix: keep your speed down and have the tyre checked straight away.
Tell the fitter if you have used sealant. It has to be cleaned out, and it can rule out a repair.
Have the tyre changed where you are
A mobile fitter brings the new tyre to the car and fits it on the spot, so there is no tow and no spare needed. Call us with the tyre size from the side of the tyre and where the car is.
